OVAL CUT DIAMONDS
The oval cut is a particularly beautiful shape and if well proportioned gives
great scintillation and fire. A well cut oval diamond can be almost as bright
as a well cut Brilliant or round shaped diamond as the angles for cutting are
closer to that of a brilliant cut diamond.

The standard number of facets of an Oval Cut Diamond is 58,but
can have a varying number of pavilion main facets ranging from 4, 6, or 8.
Oval is from the Latin word "Vum" meaning "Egg".
The Oval Cut Diamond is based upon the traditional configuration of the round
brilliant diamond, and that's why its technical name is oval modified brilliant
diamond. The oval was invented by Lazare Kaplan in the early 1960s.
The Oval Cut has an elliptical shape when viewed from the top.
The optimal ratio (length/width) of 1.50 is almost universally considered a pleasing
shape for oval diamonds, with any variation beyond 1.35 or 1.65 beginning
to be noticeable and become an aesthetic issue.
The Oval Cut is a particularly beautiful shape and if well proportioned gives
great scintillation and fire.
